Draft Grades:
Pod (A)
Pod is that you? After going three Broncos players to start the season last year he has a text book first few rounds. Julio/Charles/Cooks/Forte/Luck to start the draft was flawless execution by his part. I think he drafted Jennings a bit too high with players like Duke Johnson/ Hurns/ Abdullah all available. His flex remains his only question mark, and I have little to complain about here. Excellent drafting Mike.
Pat (A-)
Not to be cocky but I think I drafted really well. Gurley fell like a present from heaven to me in Round 1 and then I went back to back top WR with Dez and Landry in rounds 2 and 3. Dez is sketchy with Romo being out but Dak has been throwing a lot to Dez I nthe preseason and I felt confortable with it. I traded away my 4th and 11th rounds for back to back picks in the 5th and 6th which didn’t go as expected in my plans and I was forced to take a QB in Big Ben. Took two gambles in Langford and Matt Jones, but with DeAngelo as my next pick, both of those guys can sit on the bench while DeAngelo starts for three weeks and I figure out who is actually good. I got the best Defense in the league and got a steal in Travis Benjamin who is a return specialist and the 2nd WR on the team.
Hiller (B+)
Taco was stuck with the first pick in the draft and didn’t do too bad. AB will be a sure fire lock every week, then he went WR heavy picking two more after AB and only 1 RB. This leaves him with Foster and Forsett as his two RBs other than Ingram. Both of those guys have huge ??? attached to them and no one knows how that will play out with both coming off of injury. Combine that with injury concerns of Benjamin and Hiller’s squad is a big gamble but hopefully it pays off for the poor taco. I am not a fan of getting two players on the same team, especially using a 2nd and 4th round picks on those guys. As long as Saints play well he should be okay, and he has a top notch TE and above average DEF. I like the draft, lets see how these injury guys play out.
Doug (B+)
He takes a play out of my book and waits on a QB, instead picking and elite team elsewhere. As stated four other times in these draft grades I don’t like taking two players on the same team in the first 5 rounds and going Miller/D-Hop 1-2 is pretty sketchy. He has 6 players with a BYE week of 9. With two third rounds picks he takes Stewart and Maclin which were excellent picks. He has two starting RBs that are not in RBBCs and are the workloads on the teams. Hopkins and Maclin are similar players that get 8-12 targets a game. He got third best defense on my board and took Dion Lewis late from me and threw him on the IR. I really like it. If Derek Carr has this breakout season everyone was prediciting Doug will be golden, but I think he should’ve drafted a second QB instead of Tajae Sharpe (I don’t care that hes from UMASS).
Frog (B)
Frog drafted his team to be the 5th or 6th seed in the playoffs. Drafts two suspended players (Bell & Gordon) but plays some of my worst rated drafts in the early rounds (Evan, Kevin, and Dave). He has a team of a bunch of players who played really good last year and broke out last season. With Brandon Oliver tearing his Achilles yesterday, Woodhead becomes stronger especially after catching 80 passes last season. Abdullah and Lockett aren’t your prototypical guys getting points on return yards and catching short passes. If Gordon plays out, he can ride Cam Newton to a 5 or 6 seed in the playoffs. He will start 2-4 this season but don’t overlook him.
Ricky (B-)
He stuck with his guns and took a gamble skipping AP and Gurley for David Johnson. Another big gamble with Ivory on the new team in JAX. He hedged his bet by taking three more RBs. He had no 3rd or 5th round picks and needed to make the 4th round count as he had three picks in a 5 pick span. He picks Edelman and Brady back to back and then DT. Edelman has had injury concerns and Brady is Suspended, and they play on the same team which is always a gamble. Ricky has no WR on his bench either. Sketchy draft but the team has a solid base to be able to make playoffs.
Kevin (B-)
Kev wins the lottery getting AP first and then thought it was 2010 and went RB/RB/TE first three rounds. Oh boy. That’s how you end up having to have DeSean Jackson as a starting WR. I normally like what Kevin does, but he went on to get three more RBs for his bench. He is banking on Allen Hurns repeating which is sketchy. Not a fan of the Packers defense but a big fan of Carson Palmer. He will ride on the strong RBs and QB and TE play and if he finds a gem or two on FA he can be a good team. He has the potential to do something great after getting AP.
Rich (C+)
Taco Jr had a better draft than in previous years, but still a below average drafting strategy. He has two sets of players that will be starters and they play on the same team (Jordy/Lacy & Eli/OBJ) which makes Rich’s team one that will go off and score 185pts one week then 100pts the next because if one of those two teams have a bad week he is in trouble. Lacy was terrible last year and was a big gamble and Jordhy is coming back from injury so its another gamble. OBJ is playing on a team with Cruz coming back and a new young WR they drafted. I think OBJ will still play great, Julio was a safer pick at #2. While we are talking about question marks he grabs Moncrief very high in the 5th round and then drafts Melvin Gordon who was the ultimate bust last season. Jeremy Hill is one of the most inconsistent players there is. We close this out with Coby Fleener, where a simple twitter or google search shows that Brees and him have not been on the same page at all this preseason. Bro why did you take Marvin Jones Jr #74 overall?? I see Rich being a very up and down team, with a very sketchy squad all around.
Leo (C+)
Another idiot. Takes the #1 RB from last season wayyyy to high where everyone freaked out, especially with AP and Gurley on the board. Came with Brandon Marshall in 2nd round when there are question marks if he can repeat that insane season. Latavius seems like a safe pick but some rumors are that he is in a position to maybe lose the starting gig during the season. He picked a lot fo average guys that are safe, not any big name guys to put up 20+ points alone in a given week. Definitely a safe jew draft.
Evan (C-)
Oh boy Evan. I think you were better off Auto Drafting. Just like Dave he picks who he wanted to pick and said fuck rankings you see Ev taking Zeke very high and was the first team to take a QB and a DEF and just took who he wanted to pick. His WR are pretty sold but sketchy RBs and leaving the draft in the 8th round and not picking his last 6 picks himself really hurt him. Cant see him making playoffs but he wont be Taco either
Dave (C-)
Dave’s team is what happens when you don’t give a FUCK about the rankings and just pick whoever the fuck you want. So the draft starts at 8:30pm and at 8:17pm words comes in that AJ Green needs to be helped off of the field with an injury, Dave says fuck it and takes him 4th overall. INSANE. Shady McCoy was good #2 pick but then he ruins it by taking Watkins #3, and now has two players on the same team. Alshon/Landry/Maclin were all there for the taking bro. He drafts Russel Wilson way too high Round 4 and then comes back and takes ANOTHER SEAHAWK. DAVE WHAT THE FUCK DUDE. He drafts Diggs too high and takes a gamble on John Brown. He has 2 players that ranked in top 10 in their positional group and if Seattle or Buffalo plays bad in a given week he will have less than 100pts scored.
Jack (D)
I have never given someone a D before but even Jack cant amaze me. He takes Gronk over every RB in the league and then takes Mike Evans when there are much safer picks at #2… Bro CJ Anderson 3rd round? Emmanuel Sanders over Kelvin Benjamin? Not a single RB or WR rank in the top 16 players in their position last season so unless the sky falls Jack wont be making the playoffs with this draft.
